Auteur is Theresa Sandin uit Zweden.
Zij zeggt zelf over haar page:
...This is a collection of articles discussing the necessity and validity of the theory of riding dressage horses deep, round and overbent for training purposes. It deals with what it actually is, what it's supposed to do, and the apparent downsides to the method. I have not attempted to be "objective" about the subject, and it is rather evident from the texts that this is not a method I use myself. ......

This month we bring you a very special edition of Horses For LIFE. A double issue with almost twice the normal articles all on only one subject. Something we have not done before. The subject. Rollkur.
We have brought together in one place, articles, translations, information pictures and video on rollkur. While this may not be a happy issue, we certainly hope it is a powerful one. Powerful enough, for voices to be heard. And in this issue, we want to help you find your voice, with a new feature. You will find several articles where you can add your comments. Please add your voice.
And may all of us help the horses find theirs.

Horses For LIFE Magazine: JUNE ISSUE!
A special double issue, with exclusive FREE video of the rollkur/hyper-flexion training method that has brought about so much controversy. Read both sides. The FEI and exclusive interviews with two incredible women who have made it their life's work to make a change. At the same time learn about the hyoid bone, its connections to the sternum and tongue, about gutteral pouches and their effect on the brain, the nuchal ligament and poll ossification. NEW Add Your Comments! We have several articles where you can add your comments on how you feel!
A Rollkur Pictogram http://horsesforlife.com/content/view/421/415/

An article of pictures not words...we will let the pictures speak for themselves...Let the horse's eyes do the speaking.
Riding Blind http://horsesforlife.com/content/view/450/415/
As Jonica Newby reports, science has news for horse riders. They may be surprised to discover they’ve actually been riding blind. A neuroscientist from Western Australia made this amazing discovery while investigating how horses see.
Theresa Sandin: Standing Up http://horsesforlife.com/content/view/429/415/
Theresa started a fire storm last year when she posted on her site pictures of a warm up of some of the top riders in dressage. The pictures were so shocking and created such an outcry that this one woman's efforts were in large part the reason for the FEI Symposium to study the matter further. It did come at great cost to Theresa, and while the battle raged she was forced to close her site.
Parotid Gland, Hyoid Bone and Gutteral Pouch Problems http://horsesforlife.com/content/view/433/415/
A recent study of pouch position with respect to the carotid artery blood supply of the brain offers evidence that they keep the brain from overheating during exercise. Discover how surprising much the shape of the deeper lying guttural pouch can be distorted
Dr Ulrike Thiel Interview http://horsesforlife.com/content/view/420/415/
Find out about what drove this women to start her own crusade. How long she has been at it and what she is doing now. How she has made "rollkur" her cause, the difficulties she has encountered and why more people are not speaking out in this frank interview.
Video on Rollkur http://horsesforlife.com/VideoOnRollkur
Exclusive Video "We believe that credible and well founded conclusions must be backed not only by scientific research, but also by an analysis of photo and video material on the practical and systematic use of this riding technique. Such material has neither been published by the riders/trainers using the method nor by the press or other media." Dr. Ulrike Thiel

Learned Helplessness http://horsesforlife.com/content/view/428/415/
TRANSLATION OF ST GEORG ARTICLE, Dr. Ulrike Thiel explains how she recognises whether a horse has completed its dressage training mentally relaxed and balanced. Or if it had been simply placed under pressure and has had to learn not to try to help itself.
Dr Nancy Nicholson: Positions of the Head http://horsesforlife.com/content/view/456/415/
Comparing and investigating the different positions of the head using computer modeling to show us how this affects the inside as well as the outside of the horse. Then using this investigative information to decide on what should we be doing with our training.
Horst Weiler Bit Magazine Interview http://horsesforlife.com/content/view/309/415/
Translation. The attitude dressage horses adopt for their training leads to chronic overstraining of the anchoring where the neck tendon is attached at the back of the skull. This is the conclusion reached by Horst Weiler of the free Universitet in Berlin in a scientific publication which earned him the title of hoogleraar.
Add Your Voice
Each of us is very special soul, an indestructable spritual being. All of us are on different paths, and at different points sometimes on the same path. It is not up to us to judge others, but only to judge for ourselves what we want to do in this world.
Let us together in the beauty of our souls create a new reality.
FEI Guidelines
The FEI: In Their Own WordsLet us look at their own words. At the words of the F.E.I. Let us look to see if we can recognize in these words the work we see done in these pictures and videos.
FEI Symposium Don't know what the fuss is all about? Here is the workshop reprinted for you on the use of over bending ("Rollkur") now to be called hyper-flexion as concluded by the FEI. This represents the current position of the FEI.
Editorial: Slippery Slopes
But times change and new horses are bred, and new riders come along. It is a time of invention. Of cars and computers, we get so used to inventing we think we can reinvent everything. Including the horse.
Creating Breathing Problems? http://horsesforlife.com/content/view/454/415/
"It has been postulated that upper airway impedence is reduced when the head and neck are extended and that upper airway impedance is increased when the neck is flexed and the head is in a tucked position (Cook 1981)." A review of the articles in Horses For LIFE on the mechanics of flexion and breathing. When is too much, too much?

Behind the Vertical -- so what’s the Big Deal?
After the recent FEI workshop on rollkur, the dressage community is divided now more than ever. I believe education is a key factor in preserving our Equestrian Art. For this reason, I have expanded “Visual Points of the Moving Horse” and am making it available to be used for nonprofit educational purposes that promote the Equestrian Art. “Visual Points of the Moving Horse” may be posted at riding facilities and equestrian events. "Visual Points of the Moving Horse” is copyrighted and all rights are reserved.

..........
The term “Dressage” can be quite misleading to the beginner in equestrian sports. Equestrian dressage has nothing in common with the dressage practised in a circus, i.e. the often unnatural teaching of tricks to animals for show purposes. Equestrian dressage serves the purely factual and practical purpose of reinforcing the horse’s capacity to carry the weight of the rider, and of controlling the horse’s motions without coercion through the rider’s aids. .....

......The word abuse in equestrian circles immediately sums up visions of bleeding sides raked by vicious spurs, bruised and damaged mouths and chins from overuse of bit or curb, and horses which fly to the back of the box when their cruel owner approaches.
Unfortunately, abuse can be much more subtle. It can even result from so-called classical methods - clearly illustrating how words can be misused. Unfortunately, there is no copyright on the word classical, so anyone can use it! I have seen people who call themselves classical riding a horse in piaffe or passage for over 20 minutes without a break and thinking themselves marvellous - this is abuse! Equally, I have seen riders who would never call themselves classical but claim to be humane, scraping their horse's sides with the spur in every stride or winching their flash noseband so tight, it indents the sensitive skin of the nose. Both scenarios constitute abuse!
Abuse is the sight of a small horse being ridden by a very heavy rider. Abuse is a horse being worked deep for more than l0 minutes at a time. Abuse is being asked to jump, turn or ride circles in a badly fitting saddle. Abuse is a badly balanced rider expecting balance from her horse! The instances of abuse are all around us even although the perpetrators of these crimes against the horse may remain blissfully unaware.......
http://www.classical-dressage.net/classical_dressage_page7.shtml
.......The main problem with all these trainers - and I'm sorry to sound cynical - is general ignorance about the horse's nature, his inherent capabilities and the biomechanics of movement. After all, knowing how a person and a horse moves in balance is a science in itself. Everything has a logic to it and every question should be answerable.....
De Classical Riding Club:
What is the Classical Riding Club?
The CRC was started in 1995 by Sylvia Loch, Classical Rider, trainer, lecturer and author. Her aim was to bring together other riders, trainers, students and horse-lovers in order to promote more widely the Classical Principles of Equitation, ie: working with the horse’s conformation, physiology and psychology.
These precepts have been followed since antiquity by the great Masters of Equitation and have been embodied into the Classical Riding Club Charter to re-emphasise:-
- Harmony between horse and rider
- Correct and fair discipline without abuse
- Treating every horse as an individual
- Training at the horse’s own pace
- Looking for the positive rather than the negative
- Giving due reward and praise to the horse
